“One of my favorite aspects of physical therapy is problem solving for the cause of my patients’ pain. A combination of detailed questions, tests, and analysis help pinpoint the origin of pain, which can sometimes be far from where pain is felt. Once we solve that puzzle, we use different techniques to treat the symptoms AND the cause. That way, patients avoid recurring issues, which is very satisfying as a provider.”

Certified Manual Therapist
Kara Mathys earned her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Wisconsin – Madison, concluding her studies in 2014. Like many physical therapists, Kara experienced an injury in high school, which exposed her to physical therapy and how it can improve the lives of patients. She became especially interested in orthopedics and the success of manual physical therapy while completing her final clinical internship. She pursued a manual therapy certification through the Institute of Manipulative Physiotherapy and Clinical Training, finishing the certification in 2016.
Her passion for learning continued after she joined Impact Physical Therapy in October of 2016. She completed her Astym certification (an instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization technique) and began Trigger Point Dry Needling in 2016. She values taking a comprehensive approach when assessing patients to find the cause of their pain while also treating their symptoms. She enjoys working with people of all ages who have experienced traumatic injuries, overuse injuries, or have general musculoskeletal pain from weakness or poor posture. She is continually striving to improve her practice and is specifically interested specializing in jaw pain and women’s health in the future.
